Dog Crying in Pain

My Labrador dog is salivating and cannot get comfy and is crying as if in pain. This has only just started tonight. How can I make my dog more comfortable, what do you think is the cause and what should I do?

Vet Suggestion Dog Crying in Pain

Hello David,

It is impossible to arrive at a reliable diagnosis for your dog without a physical exam. There are many potential causes for the symptoms you describe, some of which (e.g., gastric dilatation and volvulus) are potentially life-threatening.

Call your veterinarian (or an emergency clinic if it is after hours), and explain what you are seeing. The veterinarian can ask questions based on your description and determine whether this sounds like an emergency that warrants an immediate trip to the clinic or if a “wait and see” approach is appropriate.

Best of luck,

Jennifer Coates, DVM
