Jumping the Fence

by Shyanne
(Suitland, MD)

My 6 year old Black Lab Dutch has a major problem with jumping the fence. We recently adopted him from a pound a few months ago. Evidently he ran away from his first home and animal control got him - where he stayed in the pound for 4 months until we adopted him out.

Frequently when we let him outside to use the bathroom, we have to sit out and make sure he won't jump the fence. There has been plenty of times when he has jumped the fence but he always returns home. Which leads to me to think that he must be getting enough love here at home, because why didn't he return to his first home?

Does anyone have any advice on how to stop him from jumping the fence? It scares me half to death when I go outside and he's not in the yard :(
